الأفكار...عورة

تحديث
this is from Dilli
To limit the press is to insult a nation; to prohibit reading of certain books is to declare the inhabitants to be either fools or slaves
*Claude-Adrien Helvetius A French philosopher and litterateur (February 26, 1715–December 26, 1771)
and she asks
Are we FOOLS or SLAVES ? Or BOTH ?!

censorship is wrong,
because,
ms.baker explains:

I am vehemently against literary censorship of any kind. I stringently object on the grounds that ANY literary expression is a testament and document of the intellectual evolution of humanity in a sea of God created universes containing the unfathomable possibility of other intellects expressing themselves in a similar fashion... ...And that statement even has to unfortunately include literary expression of the Larry Flynt/ Hugh Hefner kind. But that is part of who humans are as well, isnt it...?

الكتاب قليل في كلماته
و كثير في معانيه

والرقيب الذي منعه

عاري في ثقافته
و ذليل رغم نفوذه

And I agree with Ms. Baker. No one should have the authority to dictate what a nation can or cannot read. As for objectional material, a rating system would suffice.

I liked the "God" approach to censorship :) Loved D&M quote even more!

I would love to think that this is a "conspirecy" to promote the banned books, rather than sheer stupidity :(

Slaves or fools?
I think that the people who reject censorship are slaves trying to set themselves free. As for those who accept, justify, or do nothing about it, they are fools.

I was thinking about the reasons that made MOI ban Yousif Khalifa's book, and I didn't come with any. I actually find the book very instructive and touching from moral standpoints. So my guess is that the censor found the title provocative - it reminded him of nudity.

Imagine it, our censor is so proficient in his work that he reached the stage where he would not only ban images, descriptions, and references to naked flesh, but also ban a phrase that might or might not make him think of naked flesh!

Now that's a Kuwaiti invention: censorship according to free association!!!
